Postpunk
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Postpunk · Post-punk kept the energy and do-it-yourself attitude of punk but let go of the three chords. Joy Division from Manchester released their records on the local label Factory; in New York, Talking Heads showed that rock could be nervous, ironic and danceable. After the death of Ian Curtis in 1980, Joy Division carried on as New Order.
Listening
Listening tip. In She's Lost Control, hear how the bass plays the melody while the drums sound dry and almost mechanical.
