Garage rock revival
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre
Garage rock revival · In 2001 guitar rock suddenly sounded raw and short again. The Strokes of New York released Is This It, and The White Stripes, a duo from Detroit with only guitar and drums, released White Blood Cells. They harked back to the garage rock of the 1960s and to punk: few chords, a dry recording and no long solos. More bands with 'The' in their name followed, such as The Hives from Sweden and The Vines from Australia, and then the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Listening
Listening tip. Listen to Last Nite for the two guitars that interlock tightly, the dry drums and the voice of Julian Casablancas, which sounds as if he were singing through an old telephone.
