Brad Mehldau

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

The pianist Brad Mehldau grew up in Florida and Connecticut and studied in New York. He played with the saxophonist Joshua Redman and in 1995 started a trio of his own. He was often compared with Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, but developed a way of playing of his own in which both hands play independent melodies, as in the music of Bach. Besides standards, Mehldau also plays pop songs, from Radiohead and Nick Drake to the Beatles. In this way he reached an audience beyond jazz. He has also written for classical singers and worked with the mandolin player Chris Thile.
