Candy Dulfer

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Candy Dulfer, daughter of the saxophonist Hans Dulfer, began playing saxophone at the age of six, encouraged by her father. As a teenager she already had a band of her own, Funky Stuff, and she played as the opening act for Madonna. Prince asked her to play with him in 1988. In 1989 she recorded Lily Was Here with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, for the Dutch film of the same name; the single became an international hit. Her album Saxuality (1990) was nominated for a Grammy in the United States. She plays a mixture of funk, pop and smooth jazz and has toured with, among others, Prince, Van Morrison and Pink Floyd.
