My Point of View
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
My Point of View is Herbie Hancock's second album and was released in 1963 on Blue Note. He stuck to hard bop and soul jazz and added a trombone to the trumpet and tenor sax on three tracks. For this he brought in Donald Byrd, Grachan Moncur III and Hank Mobley, and the guitarist Grant Green plays on two tracks. The drummer is the seventeen-year-old Tony Williams.
Two months after the sessions, Hancock and Williams joined Miles Davis's band, the later Second Great Quintet. According to Hancock, Blind Man, Blind Man evokes his background, after a blind guitarist in his neighbourhood in Chicago. In King Cobra he tried to widen the flow of the chords, in the modal style he used in 1965 on Maiden Voyage.
