Butterfly Dreams

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Butterfly Dreams is the second studio album by the Brazilian jazz singer Flora Purim. It was released in 1973 on Milestone Records and recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. Orrin Keepnews produced. Purim was already part of the circle around Chick Corea at the time, and her vocal performances were eagerly awaited.

The accompaniment consists of musicians who suited her well: George Duke on electric piano and synthesizer, Stanley Clarke on bass, Joe Henderson on saxophone and flute and Airto Moreira on drums and percussion. Together they make light-sounding fusion with Latin American influences. According to AllMusic, Purim showed her voice here in all its qualities, and it was a high point in her career. Another reviewer praised the freshness of her voice.
