Stanley Clarke
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
Bass player Stanley Clarke from Philadelphia played both double bass and bass guitar. He played young with Horace Silver, Joe Henderson and Pharoah Sanders, and in 1972 became a member of Chick Corea's Return to Forever. There he made the bass guitar a solo instrument, with slap technique and fast lines. His solo album School Days (1976) became a model for bass players from jazz, rock and funk. Later he worked a great deal in Hollywood as a film composer. With Corea and Lenny White he reunited Return to Forever in 2008.
