Stanley Clarke

Bassist Stanley Clarke uit Philadelphia speelde zowel contrabas als basgitaar. Hij speelde jong al met Horace Silver, Joe Henderson en Pharoah Sanders, en werd in 1972 lid van Return to Forever van Chick Corea. Daar maakte hij van de basgitaar een solo-instrument, met slaptechniek en snelle lijnen. Zijn soloalbum School Days (1976) werd een voorbeeld voor bassisten uit jazz, rock en funk. Later werkte hij veel in Hollywood als filmcomponist. Met Corea en Lenny White bracht hij Return to Forever in 2008 opnieuw bij elkaar.
