Children of Forever
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Children of Forever · Stanley Clarke recorded his debut album in December 1972. Polydor Records released it in 1973. Chick Corea produced it and also played on it, on electric piano, piano and clavinet. Also heard were, among others, guitarist Pat Martino, drummer Lenny White, flautist Arthur Webb and the singers Dee Dee Bridgewater and Andy Bey.
The album has only five tracks, and they are long: Children of Forever lasts over ten minutes and Sea Journey, which Corea wrote with Neville Potter, over sixteen. The lyrics are by Potter. Billboard wrote that avant garde and funk come together here, with Andy Bey as a strong voice and Corea on electric piano. Thom Jurek of AllMusic thinks the record has aged excellently and is full of heart and inspiration.
