From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Discovery · Between 1998 and 2000, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo worked at Daft House, the studio in Bangalter's home in Paris, on the follow-up to Homework. That record had acquired many imitators, and the duo deliberately sought a different direction. They did not use standard house drum machines, but an Oberheim DMX, a LinnDrum and a Drumtraks, along with samplers, electric pianos and vocoders. They used Auto-Tune in a way it was not intended for. One More Time was already finished in 1998 and sat on the shelf for two years. Romanthony, Todd Edwards and DJ Sneak contributed.
The result is a concept album about the duo's youth, with influences of disco, post-disco, garage house and R&B. The album produced six singles, of which One More Time became the biggest club hit. Critics praised the innovation, and the album is regarded as an influential record for electronic and pop production.
