Wildstylez

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Wildstylez is the stage name of Joram Metekohy, a Dutch hardstyle DJ and producer, born in 1983. In 2004 he began producing hardstyle under the name Seizure, together with Ruben Hooyer, and released records on labels such as Sys-X, Blutonium and Scantraxx. At the end of 2007 his first solo release as Wildstylez appeared, on Headhunterz's Scantraxx sublabel. In 2008 he formed the duo Project One with Headhunterz, who made an album of thirteen tracks in less than three months. The album was released on 25 July 2008, shortly after their first performance at Defqon.1.

Music and breakthrough

In 2009 came Tonight, a collaboration between Headhunterz and Wildstylez with Noisecontrollers, which came second in the Q-dance Harder Styles top 1000 in 2013. With Noisecontrollers he founded the label Digital:Age in 2010, and in 2013 followed his own label Lose Control Music. In 2012 Year of Summer, with the singer Niels Geusebroek, brought him into the Dutch popular dance scene. Timeless, which premiered at the Defqon.1 Endshow in 2012, became one of the best-known hardstyle tracks. His first solo album Lose Control was released in 2015.

Influence

Wildstylez makes emotional, melodic hardstyle and also works with mainstream DJs. With Hardwell he made Shine A Light in 2018, and in 2022 Typically Dutch was released with Armin van Buuren. In 2018 he founded the label Art of Creation with Headhunterz. In 2023 Year of Summer became the first hardstyle track in the Top 2000 of NPO Radio 2. His work shows how hardstyle grew from the Dutch club scene into something that crossed borders.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Year of Summer and notice Niels Geusebroek's vocals and the stomping kick beneath them. Can you hear how a hardstyle track is given a melody that also fits on the radio?
