Robert Glasper
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
The pianist Robert Glasper from Houston studied in New York and played both in jazz groups and with hip-hop and R&B artists. He names Herbie Hancock and the producer J Dilla as major influences. With the Robert Glasper Experiment he made Black Radio in 2012, with guest singers such as Erykah Badu, Lalah Hathaway and Yasiin Bey. The album won the Grammy for best R&B album. Glasper played on To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar. He shows that jazz, hip-hop and soul are one musical language for his generation.
