Dawn FM

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

After After Hours from 2020, The Weeknd began a new album straight away. An earlier plan, inspired by his gloomy mood during the pandemic, he threw away because it was emotionally too heavy. Dawn FM was released on 7 January 2022. He produced it himself, together with, among others, Max Martin, Oneohtrix Point Never, Oscar Holter, Swedish House Mafia and Calvin Harris.

The album is a radio station for people stuck in purgatory, as he explained it himself. Jim Carrey speaks as the presenter between the songs. The music is predominantly cheerful: dance-pop and synth-pop with influences of new wave, funk and 1980s electronic dance music. Take My Breath was the first single. Tyler, the Creator and Lil Wayne take part as guests. Reviewers praised the production, the structure and the melodies.
