Ummagumma

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Ummagumma is a double album by Pink Floyd, recorded partly live and partly in the studio and released on 7 November 1969 by Harvest Records. The first disc contains live recordings from Mothers Club in Birmingham and the College of Commerce in Manchester.

On the second disc each band member gets half a side for a work of his own, without contributions from the others. Richard Wright made Sysyphus, Roger Waters Grantchester Meadows, David Gilmour The Narrow Way and Nick Mason The Grand Vizier's Garden Party. The studio recordings ran from September 1968 to July 1969. The album was well received at the time and reached the British top five, but critics and band have viewed it less favourably since.
