Atom Heart Mother

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Atom Heart Mother was released on 2 October 1970 and was recorded at EMI Studios, now Abbey Road, in London. Pink Floyd began it after the music for the film Zabriskie Point had ended in discord in Rome. The title suite, which takes up the whole of the first side, came about from instrumental ideas arising from rehearsals. Ron Geesin wrote the arrangements for orchestra and choir, with the band mainly playing the accompaniment. Side two offers three songs by Waters, Wright and Gilmour and ends with Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast.

It was the band's first album to reach number 1 in England. The cover, with a cow, shows no title and no name. The reviews were mixed, and the band members themselves were later negative about it.
