Blue Moods
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Blue Moods was released in late 1955 on Debut Records, the label of Charles Mingus. Miles Davis plays trumpet in a small group with Mingus on bass, trombonist Britt Woodman, vibraphonist Teddy Charles and drummer Elvin Jones. Mingus wrote the arrangement of Alone Together; Teddy Charles arranged the other tracks.
The liner notes explain why the record is so short: the grooves were cut wider and deeper so that the range of the low notes was better reproduced. AllMusic calls the record an excellent example of Cool Jazz, even though not all the musicians belonged to that movement. The album later also found its way into Mingus's large Debut box set.
