All for You

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

All for You is Janet Jackson's seventh studio album, released on 16 April 2001 by Virgin Records. After her divorce from René Elizondo Jr., she wanted to make a lighter record than The Velvet Rope, which was about, among other things, domestic violence and depression. Besides Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, she worked, for the first time since Control, with another producer as well: the hip hop producer Rockwilder.

It is pop and R&B with influences from rock, disco, funk and East Asian music. The songs are about romance, passion and sex, but also about betrayal. China Love uses gamelan and tabla. The title song spent seven weeks at number 1 on the American Hot 100 and won a Grammy for best dance recording. The album was well received, but the explicit lyrics led to bans in some countries.
