He first worked for other artists, including Pitbull with Shut It Down and Lady Gaga with Applause. His breakthrough came in 2013 with his debut single Turn Down for What, with Lil Jon. The song reached number four on the US Hot 100, was nominated for a Grammy for best music video and won a Billboard award in 2015. In 2014 he played as a supporting act, together with Dillon Francis, on Skrillex's Mothership Tour. In 2015 he performed at Coachella.
