DJ Duro
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist
DJ Duro · Duro is the stage name under which Sjoerd Janssen made hardstyle in the early years. He was born in 1984 in Eindhoven and, together with his brother Wouter, born in 1982, forms the Dutch dance duo Showtek. The brothers began their musical career in 2001 with techno and in 2003 switched to hardstyle. Wouter then mainly made hard trance under the name Walt, while Sjoerd produced hardstyle as Duro. Just Begun from 2003 thus belongs to the beginning of the Showtek story.
Music and breakthrough
In 2007 the brothers released their first album, Today Is Tomorrow, on their own independent label Dutch Master Works. It entered the Dutch album chart at number sixty-eight. In 2011 they contributed to the album Kiss from the Past by Allure, a project of Tiësto, and in 2012 singles with Tiësto followed, including Hell Yeah! In 2013 they founded the label Skink, which is licensed by Spinnin Records. In 2014 they made the single Bad with Vassy and David Guetta. In 2014 Showtek reached seventeenth place on the list of the hundred best DJs.
Influence
In 2023 the duo returned to hardstyle, with a performance at Qlimax, fifteen years after the last time. In 2024 the hardstyle album 360 Blue followed. Duro's career shows how an Eindhoven hardstyle producer grew into an international DJ duo that worked with the biggest names of the dance scene.
