Zooropa
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Zooropa · After Achtung Baby and U2's Zoo TV Tour, Bono and The Edge had a six-month break in 1993 and no desire to rest. In February the band began work on new songs in Dublin, intended as an EP. With Brian Eno and Flood as producers, the project grew into a full album. It was not finished when the tour resumed in May, so the group flew back and forth between Dublin and the concert venues to mix on days off and at night.
The album continues the experiments with alternative rock, electronic dance music and sound effects, with themes such as technology and media overload from the tour. On The Wanderer, Johnny Cash can be heard, who recorded his vocals during a visit to Dublin. Numb, Lemon and Stay (Faraway, So Close!) were released as singles. The reviews were mostly favourable and the album won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. The band themselves have mixed feelings about it.
