A Bit of Liverpool

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

A Bit of Liverpool is the third studio album by the Supremes, released in the autumn of 1964 on Motown, in the United Kingdom under the title With Love (From Us to You). Berry Gordy produced it, and Hal Davis and Marc Gordon handled the mix. The album contains covers of recent hits by British Invasion groups, plus two songs by Motown artists that had been covered by British groups: Do You Love Me and You've Really Got a Hold on Me.

The album just missed the American top twenty, at number 21. The critical response was poor. A reviewer for the San Francisco Examiner wrote that only You Can't Do That deserved first place and that the rest were just there. In 2008 the author Mark Ribowsky called it a jolly old mess, and The Encyclopedia of Popular Music gave it two out of five stars.
