Celebrate the Bullet
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Celebrate the Bullet · The debut Too Much Pressure had been a success, but after that things went wrong. The band came into conflict with 2 Tone Records and argued over direction. Most wanted new wave in the sound, others did not. In August 1980 recording began at Horizon Studios in Coventry. Bassist Charley Anderson and keyboard player Desmond Brown left the group, and Norman Watt-Roy of Ian Dury and the Blockheads stepped in on bass. The producer was once again Roger Lomas.
Celebrate the Bullet is sombre and tense, with political lyrics about social and racial relations and fear of the Cold War. Bristol and Miami is about the 1980 riots in those two cities. The title single was refused by BBC Radio 1, because a DJ thought it was about the murder of John Lennon. The album reached only number 41 in the British chart.
