Ignition
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Ignition was released in September 1992 and was the second album by The Offspring. In 1991 the group had recorded the EP Baghdad with producer Thom Wilson. Thanks to its success they signed with Epitaph, the label of Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion. In June 1992 they recorded Ignition at two studios, Westbeach Recorders and Track Record. Part of the material consisted of renewed versions of older songs, such as Get It Right and Take It Like a Man.
This is fast, melodic punk rock in a time of grunge and alternative rock. The record did not enter the Billboard 200, but the group gained a growing audience in Southern California and toured for a year and a half. Only in 1996, after the success of Smash, did the album go gold. Critics have since regarded Ignition as one of the group's best records. Guitar World ranked it number two in its list of guitar albums of 1992.
