Kaleidoscope
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Kaleidoscope is the third album by Siouxsie and the Banshees and was released on 1 August 1980 on Polydor. After the departure of John McKay and Kenny Morris, guitarist John McGeoch and drummer Budgie joined the group, and the direction changed. For the first time the band used synthesizers and drum machines, especially on Red Light and Lunar Camel. Desert Kisses is almost a ballad. The recording sessions ran from January to May 1980.
The singles Happy House and Christine preceded it. The album reached number 5 on the British chart, the highest the group achieved. Melody Maker called it a kaleidoscope of sound and image, and ZigZag the most varied and adventurous work by the group so far. Robert Smith of The Cure, Johnny Marr and Thom Yorke later named it as an influence.
