Juju

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Juju is an album by Siouxsie and the Banshees, released on 19 June 1981 by Polydor. The group recorded it in March 1981 at Surrey Sound in Leatherhead, Surrey. Nigel Gray produced it together with the band. The lineup consisted of Siouxsie Sioux (vocals), Steven Severin (bass guitar), Budgie (drums and percussion) and John McGeoch (guitar).

Two singles preceded the album: "Spellbound" on 22 May 1981 and "Arabian Knights" on 24 July 1981. In the United Kingdom Juju reached number 7 on the albums chart and was awarded a silver disc by the BPI, for 60,000 copies. Sounds gave it 4.5 stars. Paul Morley wrote in the NME that it was the first integrated Banshees album since The Scream. The 2006 CD reissue adds bonus tracks, including 12" versions of two singles.
