Borboletta

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Borboletta is Santana's sixth studio album and belongs to the band's jazz-funk fusion, together with Caravanserai and Welcome. The guitarist leaves plenty of room for percussion, saxophone and keyboards, which set the mood, as in Spring Manifestations. He himself plays long solos, as in Promise of a Fisherman, and in Give and Take you hear a funky, guitar-driven song with vocals.

The line-up changed. David Brown returned as bassist to replace Doug Rauch, on some tracks Stanley Clarke plays bass, and Leon Patillo joined as singer and keyboardist. After recording finished, drummer Michael Shrieve left and was succeeded by Leon Ndugu Chancler, who had already played on parts of the album.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Give and Take and notice how the guitar carries the song alongside the vocals.
