Look Sharp!

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Look Sharp! · Two years after their debut, Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson recorded their second album between March and September 1988, at EMI Studios in Stockholm and Trident II Studios in London. In Sweden the record went straight to number 1. Elsewhere, success was at first modest, until an American exchange student from Minneapolis took the album home with him and gave a copy to his local radio station. The Look became popular there, while the duo still had no record deal in the United States. The song reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in 25 countries.

This made Look Sharp! the international breakthrough. Listen to Your Heart also reached the top of the American chart, Dangerous reached 2 and Dressed for Success 14. Critics were divided: they praised the singles, but found the other songs lighter and less strong.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to The Look and notice how catchy the chorus is, the song with which the duo broke through in America.
