Free is Rick Astley's third studio album and was released in February 1991 on RCA Records. It was the first record that was not made by the production team Stock Aitken Waterman. Astley now produced it himself, together with Gary Stevenson, and also handled the art direction of the cover. In this way he left behind the slick hit sound of his early years.
Cry for Help, a ballad, became the biggest hit from the album and reached the top ten in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Move Right Out and Never Knew Love did less well. The album reached the British top ten and the American top forty. It marked the end of four successful years for Astley.
