Stonehenge

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Stonehenge is a folk rock album from 1970 with ten tracks, most of them written by Richie Havens himself. There are also covers, such as It's All Over Now, Baby Blue by Bob Dylan and I Started a Joke by the Bee Gees. Besides guitar, the singer also played autoharp, sitar and koto, which gives the record a distinctive tone colour. Musicians such as David Bromberg on dobro, organist Warren Bernhardt and pianist Ken Lauber took part, and Bill Shepherd wrote string arrangements.

The longest track is the closing Shouldn't All the World Be Dancing, which lasts well over eight minutes. The rest of the record consists of short songs of two to four minutes, with the exception of the Dylan cover of just over five minutes.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to It's All Over Now, Baby Blue and notice how a familiar Dylan song is sung and played here in a style of its own.
