Get Ready
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Album
Get Ready is New Order's seventh studio album. It was released in August 2001 on London Records and was the first in eight years, after Republic from 1993. Peter Hook said that the title could mean everything or nothing: the group was getting ready for the next phase in its musical life. The album is dedicated to Rob Gretton, the manager of Joy Division and New Order, who died in 1999. Billy Corgan sings along on one song and Bobby Gillespie on another.
The reviews were mostly positive. David Browne of Entertainment Weekly spoke of a stunning, self-assured return. Robert Christgau called it the group's best album in fifteen years. John Bush of AllMusic thought it was once again about songs and playing, rather than about pasted-on dance music. Not everyone was convinced: Mojo heard an old man getting out of a creaking armchair. Q put it among the fifty best albums of 2001.
