Showbiz

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Showbiz is the debut album of the English rock band Muse. It was released in France on 7 September 1999 on Naïve Records and in the United Kingdom on 4 October on Taste Media. The recording took place in April and May 1999 at RAK Studios and Sawmills Studio. John Leckie, who also produced Radiohead's The Bends, worked with the band and Paul Reeve on the production.

From some fifty songs by Matt Bellamy, the group chose the most straightforward pieces. More experimental songs were released as B-sides. The sound is alternative rock with subtle influences of classical, jazz, blues and Latin American music. Uno, Cave, Muscle Museum, Sunburn and Unintended were released as singles. Many critics compared the band to Radiohead. The album reached number 29 in the British album chart.
