Enjoy Yourself
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Enjoy Yourself · After the success of her debut, Kylie Minogue went back to work in London in February 1989 with the producers Stock Aitken Waterman, who wrote and produced nine of the ten tracks. The recording ran until July and coincided with the filming of The Delinquents, her first feature film. The album sounds like bubblegum pop, dance-pop and disco and is mostly about romantic relationships. The makers wanted more variety than on the previous record, with R&B bass lines, among other things, and a song in the style of a 1950s orchestra. Tell Tale Signs is a jazzy love song full of strings, and My Secret Heart has peculiar rhythms and stuttering cello. Tears on My Pillow is a cover of a song from 1958.
The critical response was mixed, mainly because the album resembled the debut so closely. Hand on Your Heart and Tears on My Pillow reached number one in the United Kingdom.
