Jamaica Say You Will
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Jamaica Say You Will was released in April 1975 as Joe Cocker's fifth studio album. The tracks come from the same sessions as I Can Stand a Little Rain from 1974, the record that received much praise. The album did less well than its predecessor. Jim Price produced it at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, and the rhythm section is mostly the Kingpins, formerly the backing band of the saxophonist King Curtis, with Bernard Purdie on drums.
Randy Newman plays a part: he wrote I Think It's Going to Rain Today and Lucinda. The sound is mainly soul and blues. In (That's What I Like) In My Woman, a fast rhythm section with horns can be heard. Where Am I Now and I Think It's Going to Rain Today run into one another and mirror each other's feeling. Oh Mama is pure blues vocal with saxophone, and the album ends acoustically with Jack-a-Diamonds, a simple, folk-like track.
