Stingray

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Stingray is Joe Cocker's sixth studio album, released in 1976. As before, it consists mostly of covers. Born Thru Indifference, written with Richard Tee, is the only original song. Bob Dylan remains a favourite source, with two of his songs on the record: The Man in Me and Catfish. Dylan's own version of Catfish would not appear until 1991.

Rob Fraboni produced the album, which was partly recorded at Dynamic Sound Studios in Kingston, Jamaica. Richard Tee directs the arrangements, and the band includes Steve Gadd on drums and Cornell Dupree and Eric Gale on guitar, while Eric Clapton plays a guitar solo on Worrier. Peter Tosh contributed to the arrangements of The Man in Me. The New Rolling Stone Record Guide saw signs of renewal, thanks in part to the band Stuff and the above-average material.
