Until the Quiet Comes

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Until the Quiet Comes is Flying Lotus's fourth album and was released on 26 September 2012 on Warp Records. For two years he worked on the record at home in Los Angeles, mainly with Ableton Live. He drew inspiration from psychedelic music, African percussion and the subconscious and the dream world. He did not want to repeat himself: after the great energy of Cosmogramma he chose a more restrained, more intimate sound, with tension and release.

Guests are Erykah Badu, Thom Yorke and Laura Darlington, and bassist Thundercat is on board again. The tracks run into one another and are characterised by ghostly vocals, irregular drum patterns and vibrating bass lines. He got the idea of a journey by imagining that he was practising astral projection. Critics praised the complex music and his sound engineering.
