Some Great Reward
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Some Great Reward is Depeche Mode's fourth studio album, released on 24 September 1984 on Mute Records. Recording began around Christmas 1983, still during the tour for the previous album. They began at Music Works in London, but moved to Hansa Studios in West Berlin, where most of the album took shape. The city had freed the band from its soft image: they now had themselves photographed in black leather. Gareth Jones was now one of the producers.
Here too the group used many samples, in the service of a stronger, more atmospheric sound. People Are People became the band's first number 1 in West Germany, partly thanks to an advertising campaign for the 1984 Olympic Games. Master and Servant and Blasphemous Rumours were also released as singles.
