As We Speak

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

As We Speak was released in 1982 on Warner Bros. Records. Robert Margouleff produced the album. David Sanborn plays alto and soprano saxophone, surrounded by a band that includes, among others, the bassist Marcus Miller, the drummer Omar Hakim, the guitarist Michael Sembello and the percussionist Paulinho da Costa.

Sembello himself sings lead vocals on two songs, Back Again and Love Will Come Someday, so the record also has a few vocal moments. George Duke plays clavinet on Port of Call, the opening track. The album reached number 70 on the Billboard 200, number 32 on the R&B albums chart and number 1 on Billboard's jazz albums chart.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Port of Call and notice the alto saxophone and the clavinet of George Duke.
