Backstreet

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Backstreet was released in 1983 and was produced by Marcus Miller, Michael Colina and Ray Bardani. Miller strongly shapes the sound: he plays piano, Fender Rhodes, synthesizers, vocoder, various guitars, bass, steel drums and timpani, and sings backing vocals. Colina plays piano, synthesizer and vocoder on four songs. The drummer Steve Gadd plays on two songs and Hiram Bullock on guitar on the first.

David Sanborn himself plays alto and soprano saxophone. On Neither One of Us, the closing track, we hear Ralph MacDonald on congas and percussion, and in the backing chorus, among others, Luther Vandross. On 27 January 1984 the album stood at number 1 on Billboard's traditional jazz albums chart.
