A.R.C.
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
A.R.C. was recorded from 11 to 13 January 1971 by Chick Corea with bassist Dave Holland and drummer Barry Altschul. The trio had shortly before recorded The Song of Singing together. The album was released that same year on ECM, and it was the first project in Holland's long association with that label. The title stands for affinity, reality, communication, a concept from Scientology, with which the pianist was involved at the time.
The same three musicians were then also playing together in Circle, the avant-garde quartet with Anthony Braxton. According to Scott Yanow's review on AllMusic, the music on this album is less free than that of Circle, but often exploratory. He calls it a good set of adventurous jazz, recorded a few months before the pianist chose a different direction.
