Renaissance

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Renaissance is Beyoncé's seventh studio album and the first part of a planned trilogy. It was released on 29 July 2022 on Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. She worked on it for almost three years, from 2019 and 2020, mainly in Los Angeles. Stuart White handled the vocal production and the mix. The producers include The-Dream, Nova Wav, Mike Dean, Hit-Boy, Honey Dijon, Skrillex and No I.D. Hit-Boy had already made "Thique" in 2014; the track was completed eight years later.

The album is structured as a continuous DJ mix and looks to house, disco and Black and queer club culture. Beyoncé said she had conceived it partly as a tribute to her cousin Johnny, who died during the AIDS epidemic. "Break My Soul" reached number 1 on the Hot 100. The record debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 and won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album.
