10 000 Hz Legend

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

10 000 Hz Legend · This second album by Air was released on 28 May 2001 in France on Virgin Records and a day later in the United States on Astralwerks. The French duo made the songs longer and more electronic than on earlier records. They also collaborated with other artists, including Beck and suGar Yoshinaga of Buffalo Daughter. The cover shows Monument Valley, on the border of Arizona and Utah.

The reactions were less favourable than for earlier records. Many reviewers missed the sound of Moon Safari from 1998, although the soundtrack of The Virgin Suicides from 2000 does resemble this album in atmosphere. The magazine Q nevertheless counted the record among the fifty best of 2001. The website Stereogum takes its name from a line in the lyrics of Radio Number 1.
