Fender Telecaster

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Technology

Fender Telecaster · The hollow-body electric guitar would howl with feedback when the amplifier was turned up loud. In Fullerton in 1950, the radio repairman Leo Fender built a guitar from a solid plank of wood, first called Esquire and Broadcaster, and from 1951 Telecaster. The neck was bolted on and the guitar was made in a factory from separate parts. As a result, it was reliable and affordable. The Telecaster sounds sharp and twangy. It became the instrument of country guitarists in Bakersfield and Nashville, and later of pub rockers and punks.

Listening

Listening tip. Can you hear the sharp, biting attack of the guitar, cutting through between the other instruments?
