Early synthesizer scores (Moog, Berlin School, Vangelis)

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Early synthesizer scores (Moog, Berlin School, Vangelis) · In 1971, Wendy Carlos used a Moog synthesizer for A Clockwork Orange, with electronic versions of Beethoven and Purcell and pieces of her own. After that, the synthesizer became a fully fledged film instrument. The Berlin group Tangerine Dream, with sequencers that play endless, pulsing patterns, made the music for William Friedkin's Sorcerer (1977). The Greek composer Vangelis won an Oscar for Chariots of Fire (1981), with synthesizer and piano. In Blade Runner (1982), he created a melancholy, nocturnal cityscape with the Yamaha CS-80. Carlos returned with Tron (1982), in which orchestra and synthesizer go together. In this way, electronic music gained a permanent place in Hollywood.

Listening

Listening tip. Notice the pulsing sequencer patterns and the difference between synthesizers that imitate an orchestra and sounds that are only possible electronically.
