Gabber and happy hardcore

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Genre

Gabber and happy hardcore · In the early 1990s gabber emerged in Rotterdam: hardcore at 160 to more than 200 bpm, with a distorted bass drum that sounds like a hammer. From 1992 the Thunderdome parties of ID&T drew thousands of visitors. Happy hardcore made the sound lighter, with cheerful melodies and high little voices, and scored hits in the Top 40.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Poing for the hard, distorted bass drum of early gabber, and to Wonderful Days (1994) for the fast tempo and cheerful melody of happy hardcore.
