Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Artist

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross · Trent Reznor is the founder of the industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. Atticus Ross is a British producer who has worked with him since 2005. Together they wrote the music for David Fincher's The Social Network (2010). That score, with a simple piano above gritty electronic sounds, won an Oscar. For Fincher they then did The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) and Gone Girl (2014), among others. They work from the studio: they distort sounds, allow noise in and build up layers into restless soundscapes. For Pixar's Soul (2020) they won a second Oscar, together with Jon Batiste. For Challengers (2024) they made rousing techno music.

Listening

Listening tip. Notice the contrast between a vulnerable piano melody and the distorted, hissing electronic layers beneath it.
