Piano Solo
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Piano Solo is a 1954 album by pianist and composer Thelonious Monk. He recorded it on 4 June 1954 in Paris, originally for a radio broadcast. The French firm Disques Vogue released it as a ten-inch record. Several titles were wrongly printed on the cover and his first name got an extra o. Over the years the music appeared under several titles, including on GNP Crescendo. Some editions contained Hackensack as an extra track.
The record consists mainly of his own compositions, such as 'Round About Midnight, Evidence, Well You Needn't, Eronel and Off Minor. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by Jerome Kern is the only exception. In 2017 Sony released an expanded edition, in order of recording and with an announcement by André Francis and unreleased live tracks from the Salle Pleyel.
