The Raven
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
The Raven is the fourth studio album by The Stranglers and was released on 21 September 1979 on United Artists. For the first time it was not produced by Martin Rushent, but by the band themselves with engineer Alan Winstanley. The first two tracks, much of the sleeve illustration and the title refer to Norse mythology.
The lyrics deal with a variety of subjects: Japanese ritual suicide in Ice, heroin use in Don't Bring Harry, the Iranian revolution in Shah Shah a Go Go and genetic manipulation in Genetix. In Dead Loss Angeles, Hugh Cornwell plays bass alongside Jean-Jacques Burnel, without guitar. Duchess was the first and most successful single. The album was first released with a limited 3D sleeve.
