Jacques
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Jacques is a tribute to the Belgian singer and writer Jacques Brel. The idea grew out of Marc Almond's collaboration with Paul Buck, who adapted Brel's original, non-English lyrics specially for him. It was his fifth studio album and was released in December 1989. The songs were recorded over a period of four years at Milo Studios in London.
He was helped by his own band, with Annie Hogan, Billy McGee and Steve Humphreys, and by various session musicians. Charles Gray produced and wrote the remaining arrangements. Annie Hogan plays piano, and cello, accordion, oboe and violin can also be heard. The sleeve is a painting by Johnny Deux.
