Enchanted
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Enchanted is Marc Almond's sixth studio album and was released on 7 August 1990. It was recorded in various studios in London, with three producers: Bob Kraushaar and Gary Maughan each took half of the tracks, and Stephen Hague produced the first single, A Lover Spurned. The Desperate Hours and Waifs and Strays were also released as singles. Billy McGee, formerly of La Magia and the Willing Sinners, played on it, together with many session musicians.
The making of the album was difficult. In his autobiography the singer describes a conflict with Kraushaar: he wanted spontaneity and raw passion, whereas the producer preferred to rely on technique. A year later, the singer nevertheless found the result beautiful. The album reached number 52 in the UK, and A Lover Spurned entered the British Top 30. He calls the sleeve, with a photograph by Pierre et Gilles, his favourite.
