In Search of the Lost Chord

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

In Search of the Lost Chord is the third album by The Moody Blues and was released in July 1968 on Deram. The success of Days of Future Passed gave the group more studio time and freedom. Producer Tony Clarke recorded the album between May and June in Decca's Studio One in West Hampstead, largely on four tracks. Only Legend of a Mind dates from as early as January 1968.

Like its predecessor it is a concept album, this time centred on quest and discovery, of the world as well as of one's own inner self. The music is influenced by psychedelia and by meditation and Eastern spirituality. The album opens with a poem by Graeme Edge and closes with Om, an ode to the mantra. Ride My See-Saw was the first single. Ray Thomas wrote Dr. Livingstone, I Presume as a cheerful counterpart to the more serious songs. Justin Hayward later said that the band found its soul and direction here.
